THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN RHODE ISLAND THIS SPRING

As Rhode Island shakes off the winter chill, spring brings a whole new energy to the Ocean State. The air is fresh, the flowers are blooming, and it’s finally warm enough to get out and explore. Whether you’re a local looking for your new favorite spot, or a potential homebuyer getting a taste of life here, spring is one of the best seasons to fall in love with Rhode Island.

Here’s your go-to list of what to do this season:

1. Start with a Scenic Stroll Along the Cliff Walk

There’s a reason this coastal path is iconic, and spring might just be the best time to experience it. The 3.5-mile Cliff Walk in Newport gives you uninterrupted ocean views on one side and jaw-dropping Gilded Age mansions on the other. With fresh blooms lining the trail, it’s the perfect mix of peaceful and picturesque. Walk a mile, or the whole length - either way, the views are unmatched.

2. Breathe in Ocean Air on the Beach

You might not be breaking out the swimsuit yet, but spring is ideal for a visit to Second Beach, Narragansett Town Beach, or Watch Hill Beach. Think crashing waves, sea glass hunts, and salty air, without the summer crowds. Bonus: the lighting this time of year is perfect for photos.

3. Sip Your Way Through Local Vineyards & Breweries

Longer days, lighter layers, and that first hint of patio weather? That’s a recipe for the perfect spring sip. Whether you're team wine or craft beer, these local spots are made for fun afternoons and good company:

  • - Newport Vineyards: Tasting flights, spring menus, and rustic-chic vibes

  • - Greenvale Vineyards: Riverside picnics, mellow energy, and maybe even a jazz band if you time it right

  • - Newport Craft Brewery & Distillery: Local brews and small-batch spirits, for those who want something a little stronger

  • - Tilted Barn Brewer: Farm-brewed beers, open-air pours, and that laid-back countryside feel

Perfect for dates, hangouts, or impressing out-of-towners who “had no idea Rhode Island was this cool”.

4. Hit the Farmers’ Markets

Spring means the return of local produce, fresh flowers, and homemade everything. A couple of our favorites are the Aquidneck Growers Market, Middletown (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and Hope Street Farmers Market, Providence (Saturdays). Supporting local farmers and artisans is a great way to get a feel for Rhode Island’s close-knit community.

5. Catch a Festival - Or Three!

Spring in Rhode Island is the start of event season, and the lineup does not disappoint. Be sure to check out:

  • - WaterFire (May 15): If you’ve never seen downtown Providence lit by bonfires on the river, it’s time. Trust us.

  • - Newport Oyster & Chowder Festival (May 17–18): Seafood with a harbor view? Yes, please.

  • - Rogue Island Comedy Festival (May 22–25): Local laughs with national talent across Newport venues.

6. Unplug in Nature

Rhode Island’s parks and trails come alive this time of year. Explore spots such as:

  • - Sachuest Point, Middletown: Ocean views and wildlife spotting

  • - Colt State Park, Bristol: Walking, biking, and coastal sunsets

  • - Arcadia Management Area, Exeter: Forest trails and quiet escapes

Whether you’re into hiking boots or just a stroll, there’s something for every pace.
