Looking for things to do in Rhode Island this spring? From Newport festivals and Providence markets to coastal races and waterfront events, spring is one of the best times to get out and explore the Ocean State.
Here are some of the best Rhode Island spring events and activities to add to your calendar.
Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Newport (March 14, 2026)
One of the first big events of the season is the Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a tradition that brings thousands of people downtown every March.
The parade runs from Newport City Hall down Thames Street to Carroll Avenue, with marching bands, community groups, and plenty of local energy along the route. Restaurants and pubs throughout downtown fill up quickly, making it one of the liveliest weekends. We consider this the official spring kickoff.
Aquidneck 10K – Middletown (March 22, 2026)
Spring race season on Aquidneck Island starts with the Aquidneck 10K at Second Beach in Middletown.
The course runs near Sachuest Point and along the coastline, making it one of the most scenic early-season races in Rhode Island. Even if you're not running, it’s a fun event to watch and a great excuse to grab brunch afterward in Newport or Middletown.
Plus, the Fitzpatrick Team sponsors this event each year.
Narragansett Spring Restaurant Week – Narragansett (March 27-April 3, 2026)
Local restaurants throughout Narragansett offer special menus and seasonal dishes during Spring Restaurant Week, making it a great time to explore the South County food scene.
Newport Daffodil Days – Newport (April 1–30, 2026)
Every April, more than 1.4 million daffodils bloom across Newport, and suddenly the whole city feels alive again.
You’ll see them everywhere - along Bellevue Avenue, Washington Square, Touro Park, and near the Cliff Walk entrances at Easton’s Beach. It’s one of the most photographed times of year in Newport and a great excuse to spend the afternoon walking around town.
Blithewold Daffodil Days – Bristol (April 2026)
Blithewold Mansion in Bristol puts on its own incredible spring display.
Thousands of daffodils bloom across the historic waterfront gardens, making it one of the most beautiful places in Rhode Island to take a spring walk.
Newport Beer Festival – Newport (May 2, 2026)
Held at Fort Adams State Park, the Newport Beer Festival brings together dozens of breweries from Rhode Island and across New England.
Between the craft beer and the views of Narragansett Bay, it’s a fun way to spend a spring afternoon in Newport.
Oyster & Chowder Festival – Newport (May 16–17, 2026)
The Newport Oyster & Chowder Festival at Bowen’s Wharf celebrates two Rhode Island staples: fresh seafood and waterfront views.
Local restaurants and vendors serve oysters, chowder, and other coastal favorites while live music and harbor views make it one of the most relaxed food festivals of the spring season.
Providence Flea – Providence (Beginning in May)
When the weather warms up, the Providence Flea moves outdoors to 195 District Park along the Providence River.
Held on Sundays, the market features vintage vendors, local artists, handmade goods, food trucks, and live music. It’s an ideal way to spend a relaxed Sunday in Providence.
Outdoor Activities in Rhode Island This Spring
In between events, spring is also a great time to explore Rhode Island’s outdoor spots before the busy summer season begins.
Some local favorites include:
Cliff Walk – Newport
A scenic 3.5-mile path along the coastline beside Newport’s historic mansions.
Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge – Middletown
A peaceful coastal trail with ocean views and frequent wildlife sightings.
Colt State Park – Bristol
One of Rhode Island’s most beautiful waterfront parks, perfect for walking, biking, or a picnic along Narragansett Bay.
